Football District Proposal

Introduction

At the WIAA Annual Meeting in April, a considerable amount of discussion was heard about the possibility of all schools qualifying for the football playoffs. Many coaches are against this idea as it would mean matchups between the #1 seeded team and the #8 seeded team in the first round. In a survey conducted in 2001 by the Wisconsin Football Coaches Association (WFCA), head football coaches were against all-play for this very reason.

The following proposal is an alternative to everyone qualifying for the football playoffs but would provide all schools with 9 games. Schools would be assigned to districts for two years based on enrollment figures. This proposal will be a topic of discussion at the upcoming WIAA Area Meetings this fall.

Coaches are encouraged to review the materials provided and discuss them with their athletic director. Coaches with questions regarding this proposal are asked to submit them to their WFCA district representatives by August 15.
