Born March 19, 1912 in Portage, Wisconsin

Attended Portage High School, Marquette University, Graduate of U.W. - Platteville M.S. Degree from University of Wisconsin - Madison

Coached football at:

West Depere High School 1943-55,
Ripon College 1956-57,
Wayne State, Nebraska 1958,
U.W.-Oshkosh 1959-76,
UW-Whitewater 1977-1981.
He had a high school record of 63 wins, 14 losses and 2 ties, seven conference championships and six undefeated seasons.

Russ Young coached football for 40 years. He was head coach at West DePere High School for 13 years, Wayne State, Nebraska one year and at the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh 14 years.

He coached all sports at West DePere High School and was active in the state coaches association. At UW-Oshkosh Russ coached the basketball team to a championship in 1963-64 and took the team to the N.A.I.A. National Tournament the same year.

His football teams at UW-Oshkosh won championships in 1968, 1972 and 1976.

In 1976 Russ was named Coach of the Year. He was inducted into the U.W. Oshkosh Hall of Fame in 1977. During his career Russ also coached baseball, golf and track.

After retirement at U.W. Oshkosh, Russ assisted Forest Perkins at UW-Whitewater for five years.
