Earnest A. Johnson - Eagle River

Born July 20, 1908 in Odonah, WI

Attended Hurley High School, Superior State College, Graduate of Adolphus College 1931

Coached at:

Hiles High School 1932-35; and
Eagle River 1936-56.
Record of 92 wins, 37 losses, and 7 ties, eleven conference championships with seven undefeated seasons.

Ernie Johnson coached football for 24 years. At Eagle River he had five consecutive undefeated seasons with 24 shutouts, 17 being consecutive. He coached basketball for 30 years and baseball for seven. He served as athletic director for 39 years.

He is an honorary member of the Wisconsin High School Athletic Directors Association and was an active member of the Wisconsin High School Coaches Association.

Ernie presently serves on the Vilas County Board and the Eagle River City Council. He is also a member of the North Central Wisconsin Regional Planning Commission. He is a very active member of the Eagle River Lions Club.

In 1979 Ernie was inducted as a charter member into the High School Basketball Coaches Association Hall of Fame.

Ernie retired in 1974.
