Graduated with B.S. degree from Ohio State University, 1948, Graduated with M.S. degree from University of Wisconsin, 1953

Fred coached high school football at Bremen and Washington C.H., Ohio, from 1948-53 and Madison West High School from 1953-58, and was assistant football coach for the University of Wisconsin from 1958-66.

Fred was Commissioner of the Wisconsin State University Conference 1966-71; Commissioner of the Mid-American Conference 1971-82; Commissioner of the Southwest

Conference 1982-93; and Commissioner of the Lone Star Conference, 1995-present.

Honor and awards Fred has received include: National Football Foundation and Hall of Fame Outstanding Contribution to Amateur Football, 1995; All-American Football Foundation Commissioners Award, 1996; Mid-American Conference Hall of Fame; Madison, Wisconsin, Pen and Mike Hall of Fame; Past President of the Collegiate Commissioners Association; Chair of the National Letter of Intent Program, 1973-95; College Football Association Executive Committee; Cotton Bowl Team Selection Committee, 1982-present.

NCAA Committees Fred serves on include: Executive Committee; Membership Structure, Chair; Postgraduate Scholarship, Chair; Championship Standards, Chair; Special Events and Postseason Football; Research, Chair; Basketball Officiating; Junior College Relations; Conference Grant; and Championships.
