Edwin G. Baeten - Oakfield

Edwin graduated from Nicolet High School in West DePere, Wisconsin, in 1945, where he played football and basketball. He attended Platteville State Teachers' College from 1948-1952 and graduated in 1952 with a B. S. degree. He played football there from 1948-1951, basketball from 1948-1949 and track in 1949. Edwin received a Masters degree in Education-Physical Education, at the University of Wisconsin, Madison in 1968.

Edwin's teaching career started in 1952 at Oakfield High School in Oakfield, WI, where he taught Mathematics, Science and Physical Education. He was Athletic Director from 1952-1969, boy's varsity coach of football (1952-1969), basketball (1952-1985), and baseball (1952-1969).

In football he won seven conference championships, having three undefeated seasons. In baseball he won five conference championships.

Edwin was named high school principal at Oakfield High School (1962) and held that position until 1985. He also continued to coach basketball until 1985. His record in basketball was 468 wins-231 losses, 15 conference championships, three undefeated seasons, and two state appearances, 1984 and 1985. He was inducted into the WBCA Hall of Fame in 1984. Ed was a WIAA basketball official in 1950-1951, member of Wisconsin Teachers Association, National Education Association, president-secretary of St. James Holy Name society, member of St. Albert's Parish, Land O'Lakes, WI.

Edwin was a veteran of World War 11, and attended college under the GI Bill of Rights. He was a participant in the Bikini Bomb Test at Bikini Atoll in 1946. He attended college under the Veterans GI Bill of rights. Crew member of USS Salt Lake City, 1946, USS Boxer, 1947.

Edwin received the following Merit Awards: WIAA-25 year service award; UW-Platteville-John Barth Outstanding Coaching Award; Village of Oakfield-Merit Service Award; and OHS-Booster club-33 years service award in athletics

Edwin retired from education and coaching athletics in 1985 after thirty-three years of service at Oakfield High School.
