Richard Fredrickson - Arcadia

Richard “Dick” Fredrickson graduated from Durand High School in 1959.  During his high school years he excelled in football, where he was a 4-year starter.  He also enjoyed success in basketball and track.  He was selected Captain of both his football and track teams during his senior year and was named Senior Athlete.
 
Dick went on to study at UW-Stout where, in addition to lettering 3 years in track, he was a 4-year starter for the football team, twice earning All-Conference honors.  He served as an assistant football coach in 1963 before graduating in 1964.  In 2003 Dick was honored to be inducted into the UW-Stout Hall of Fame.  
 
Following graduation, Dick began his teaching and coaching career at Arcadia High School, where he taught Industrial Technology for 40 years.  In 1971 he received his MS degree from Winona State.  In 1993 Dick was celebrated as Educator of the Year by the Arcadia Chamber of Commerce.
 
Dick began his prestigious 35-year coaching career in Arcadia as the head basketball coach, head track coach and assistant football coach.  Seven years later, he accepted the head football coach position and became the assistant basketball coach.  
 
During Dick’s 28 years as head football coach, his teams won 9 Conference Championships. In 1980 he was selected as assistant coach for the WHFCA All-Star North Team.  He received WHFCA service awards in 1983, 1988, 1993 and 1998.  Dick finished his football-coaching career with a winning record of 135 and 116.  
 
Arcadia’s boys’ track teams also enjoyed impressive success under Dick’s coaching, capturing 17 Regional championships and 13 WIAA Sectional Championships, 13 of those titles over consecutive years.  His teams also won 6 State Championships and a runner up title. Dick was selected Division 3 District Coach of the Year 6 times.  He was inducted into the WHTCA Hall of Fame in 2003.  Dick retired that same year.
