Upon graduation from high school, Terry attended Upper Iowa University (Fayette, IA) for one year and then transferred to Graceland University (Lamoni, IA). While in college, Terry was a four-year varsity letter winner in both football as a defensive back and baseball as a pitcher. Terry also was an assistant football coach for Graceland for one year while he completed a double major in mathematics and physical education.

 

Terry began his teaching career at Galesburg, Illinois. For two years, he taught seventh grade mathematics and coached freshman football and track.  Realizing “there is no place like home,” Terry returned to his hometown of Lancaster.  There he taught middle and high school mathematics and coached football for 32 years until his retirement in June of 2011.

 

In Lancaster, Terry had the privilege of coaching under WFCA Hall of Fame coach John Hoch along with the rest of the awesome Flying Arrow coaching staff.  Throughout his career, he enjoyed the benefits associated with coaching teams to six State Championships, one State runner-up, twenty-one playoff appearances, and thirteen Conference Championships.  In addition, Terry had the pleasure of coaching five All-State defensive backs.  In 2005, he was named both the WFCA and District XIV Assistant Coach of the Year.
