Travis Rohrer of the Mount Horeb-Barneveld Cooperative High School football program has been named the Green Bay Packers High School Coach of the Week, the organization announced Wednesday. Rohrer is the first recipient of the award for the 2013 season.

Rohrer’s Vikings improved to 3-0 after defeating the defending Badger-North Conference champion Waunakee Warriors by a score of 28-21 on Friday, September 6. The win snapped a ten year losing streak versus the Warriors and handed Waunakee their first conference loss since 2009.

“Last year’s narrow loss against Waunakee in the final game of the regular season gave us confidence that we can compete at the highest level against one of the top programs in the state,” said Rohrer. “Going into last Friday’s game the ‘deer in the headlights’ look was gone from previous years and the way our kids responded was unbelievable.”

A La Crosse, Wis., native, Rohrer is a 1992 graduate of La Crosse Logan High School where he played wide receiver and defensive back under coach Bob Christopherson. Following high school, Rohrer attended the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse before transferring to Edgewood College.  While at Edgewood, Rohrer began his coaching career as an assistant at Madison Edgewood High School. He then moved on to McFarland High School where he coached for five years, and Watertown High School for three years, before taking over the reins as the head coach and math teacher for Mount Horeb in 2008.

Rohrer and his staff oversee a program of 123 players, including a varsity roster of 80. His assistant coaching staff includes Chris Balbach, Cody Carmody, Gary Frisch, Tim Halverson, Steve Holum, Ryan Kleppe, Geoffrey Krentz, Nolan Krentz, Erick McCormick, Andy Rice, Greg Shedivy, Eric Spears and Jeff Wright.

Rohrer and his wife, Karen, have two sons, Freddy and Charlie.
