Ray Baranczyk of Roncalli High School (Manitowoc) has been named Green Bay Packers High School Coach of the Week, the organization announced Wednesday.

Baranczyk, in his 24th season as the head coach of Roncalli, led the Jets to an 18-13 victory over No. 2-ranked Freedom High School in the third level of the Division 4 WIAA State Tournament on Friday, Nov. 8. The victory gave the Jets their 12th consecutive win of the season and first trip to the level four semifinals since the WISSA-WIAA merger. The Jets will now travel to Watertown to face No. 3-ranked Platteville High School this Friday at 7 p.m.

“Last Friday’s game epitomized the uniqueness of this group of kids,” said Baranczyk. “We were down in the fourth quarter for the first time all season and our kids kept their composure. They kept their confidence and we were able to score the go-ahead touchdown with four minutes to go.”

Born in Bonduel, Wis., Baranczyk is a 1970 graduate of Premontre High School, where he played offensive guard under Wisconsin Football Coaches Association Hall of Fame Inductees Dick Hieptas and Ron Miller. After high school, Baranczyk attended the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay. Upon graduating in 1974, Baranczyk accepted his first coaching position as an assistant at Darlington High School. From there, he coached at Antigo High School for four years before accepting an assistant coaching position at Roncalli in 1981. He was promoted to his current position as head coach in 1990. In 2012, Baranczyk was inducted into the Wisconsin Football Coaches Association Hall of Fame. He is also the school’s English and German teacher.

Baranczyk and his staff oversee a program of 56 players. His assistant coaching staff includes Chuck Boldt, James Cullen, Bill Fricke, Greg Jahnke, Paul Kinsella, Mike Orth, Mike Scheer, Scott Senglaub, Louie Vigue and Jim Westerhausen.

Baranczyk and his wife, Lori, have two children, Jason and Jessica, and one grandson, Troy.

This is the final Coach of the Week award of the 2013 season.
