The Green Bay Packers have announced that Matt Binsfeld of Wrightstown High School has been named Green Bay Packers High School Coach of the Week.

Binsfeld, in his fourth year as the head coach of Wrightstown, led the Tigers to a thrilling 22-20 victory over Freedom High School. Last Friday’s victory gave the Tigers their 10th win in a row and punched their ticket to the Level 4 matchup against Somerset High School, an opponent they defeated in double overtime three years ago to claim the 2011 Division 4 State Championship. The Level 4 semifinal matchup will take place at Goerke Park in Stevens Point on Friday, Nov. 14, at 5 p.m.

“We’ve got something really special going on here in Wrightstown,” said Binsfeld. “The kids are playing hard for us and have fully committed to the program. We’re also very fortunate to have tons of community support. I’m honored to be the recipient of this award and I think it reflects mostly on our kids and the community.”

An Appleton, Wis. native, Binsfeld is a 1996 graduate of Kaukauna High School, where he played center for Wisconsin Football Coaches Association Hall of Fame inductee, Glen Hinkens. After high school, he attended St. Cloud State University, where he played guard under Randy Hedberg. Upon graduating in 2000, he accepted his first coaching job as the offensive line coach for Wrightstown. In 2011, Binsfeld joined former Green Bay Packers Coach of the Week winner, Steve Klister, as the co-head coach before taking over the entire program in 2014. He is also Wrightstown High School’s at risk counselor.

Binsfeld and his staff oversee a program of 76 players, including a varsity roster of 38.  His staff includes Corey Haese, Craig Haese, Brian Janssen, Steve Klister, Kyle Meulemans, Travis Mueller, Mike Olson and Terry Schaeuble.

Matt and his wife, Jenny, have a son, Anthony.
