The Packers have announced that Bill Schulte of Lincoln High School in Alma Center, Wis., has been named the Green Bay Packers High School Coach of the Week.

Schulte, in his third year as the varsity head coach of Lincoln, led the Hornets to a 24-18 overtime victory over the Whitehall Memorial High School Norse, on Friday, Sept. 16. With the win over the Norse, the Hornets improved their record to 2-2 on the season. Lincoln will now travel to Independence, Wis., to face the Independence High School Indees.

“Friday night’s game was a difficult, hard-nosed game,” Schulte said. “With only 19 kids suited up, we had to find a way to play four quarters of football. Unfortunately, we were tied at the end of the game, but we were able to fire ourselves back up and come away with the win in overtime.

“This is a whole coaching staff, school administration, teacher and community award. It takes everyone for a football team to be successful.”

Schulte was born in Waterloo, Iowa. He graduated from Stoughton High School in 1987. In high school, Schulte played football for his father, Coach Charles Schulte, playing quarterback and free safety. Schulte also participated in basketball and track.

He went on to receive his master’s degree from UW-Whitewater in communication disorders in 1987. While at Whitewater, he played defensive back for the Warhawks football team, coached by Bob Berezowitz and Wisconsin Football Coaches Association Hall of Fame member Forrest Perkins. Schulte began his coaching career at Watertown High School in 1989, and went on to coach at Mukwonago High School in 1992. Schulte became the head coach of the Mukwonago Indians in 2006, and in 2014, he became the head football coach of the Hornets.

In addition to coaching football, Schulte is also head coach of the girls’ basketball team at Lincoln, and works as a speech and language clinician for the Neillsville School District.

Schulte and his staff oversee a program of 22 players. His assistant staff includes Mitch Klimek, Dave Sodlaske, Andy Sicard and Matt Esser.

Schulte and his wife, Shannon, have one daughter, Morgan.
