At today's WIAA Board of Control Meeting, the Association gave final approval to a statewide football-only conference realignment plan that was developed in conjunction with the WFCA.

The plan places all teams in seven- or eight-team conferences, bringing uniformity to the size of conferences as well as the number of conference games each team will play towards postseason qualification.

The final passage of the proposal is the culmination of a process that began in December of 2017 when the WIAA tasked the WFCA with developing a statewide plan to increase uniformity and provide non-conference scheduling relief for all teams in Weeks 1 and 2.

The WFCA Realignment Task Force was chaired by WFCA President Doug Sarver (Saint Francis) and also included WFCA Executive Board members Tony Biolo (Wisconsin Rapids), Matt Hensler (Badger), John Hoch (Lancaster), Jerry Hannack (Elmwood), and Travis Wilson (WisSports.net) along with significant input and cooperation from WIAA Deputy Director Wade Labecki.

This unprecedented undertaking involved numerous in-person meetings, phone meetings, emails, and communications over the course of more than a year. Along the way, the WFCA requested and received support from many of the impacted schools and other key stakeholders.

The WIAA Board of Control holds final authority over conference realignment matters and a WIAA Conference Realignment Task Force will now take over the review of future relief requests and provide recommendations to the Board of Control.
