04/28/2019, 2:15pm CDT
By Travis Wilson, for the WFCA

The Sixth Annual WFCA Combine was held over the weekend, and full results are now available. The Combine was split into five sessions, though all athletes were tested on the same events. All events were held at the new indoor facility at Sussex Hamilton High School. A total of 516 athletes competed in the Combine.

The WFCA Combine was conducted by NX Level staff with many high school football coaches assisting, and sponsored by the WFCA, NX Level, BSN Sports, and WisSports.net. Special thank you to WFCA President Tony Biolo for organizing the event and compiling the results, Brad Arnett & crew at NX Level, Jeff Trickey for conducting the quarterback workout in the afternoon, and Sussex Hamilton High School for the hospitality.

More than 80 college coaches were on hand from at least 30 different schools, with several programs sending multiple coaches to evaluate potential prospects. While D1-FBS coaches were prohibited from attending by NCAA rules, 23 D1-FCS coaches from eight schools were in attendance and closely monitoring the action. The full list of coaches in attendance is available in the tab below.

COMBINE RECAP AND TOP PERFORMANCES

Sparta 2020 ATH Cole Wisniewski was one of the standouts at the 2019 WFCA Combine

There were some blistering times posted in the 40-yard dash Saturday afternoon, which was done via hand-timing by the professionals from NX Level.

Mount Horeb/Barneveld Class of 2020 receiver Charlie Fish posted the fastest 40-yard dash time at the Combine, running it in 4.44 seconds. Brown Deer 2020 defensive back Joshua Wilkes was second with a time of 4.50 seconds, while Kenosha Bradford 2020 defensive back Sayge Terrell posted a time of 4.51 seconds. Other players at or under 4.55 included: Messmer 2020 wide receiver Sam Campbell (4.53), Dominican 2021 wide receiver Eferin Burns (4.53), and Catholic Memorial 2020 wide receiver Joe Sikma (4.54).

A total of 15 athletes ran the 40-yard dash in less than 4.60 seconds. The heaviest player of the group was Holmen 2020 running back Brett Holden, who posted a time of 4.59 seconds while weighing in at 196 pounds and standing 5'9.5". The fastest player over 200 pounds was Grafton 2020 running back Joey Giorgi (5'10.5", 201 pounds) who ran the 40 in 4.62 seconds.

New London 2020 defensive back Sean Cortright scored the best vertical jump (measured by electronic pads) with a leap of 39.3 inches. Potosi's Ty Dressler, a 2020 wide receiver, was next at 36.3 inches, while Charlie Fish (Mount Horeb 2020 receiver; 35.8 inches) and Shelvin Garrett II (Beloit Memorial 2020 quarterback; 35.7 inches) also were over 35 inches in the vertical jump.

While no players cleared 10-feet in the broad jump, Beloit Memorial's Shelvin Garrett II came the closest with a leap of 9'9.5". Ty Dressler of Potosi was next at 9'8.5" followed by the 9'8" mark by Dalton Elrod (Arrowhead 2020 linebacker).

The L-Drill was again a part of the Combine, with many college coaches paying close attention to the event, which is a great measure of body lean, hip flexibility, and change-of-direction skills. Lawson Ludwig, a 2020 defensive back from Waunakee, narrowly grabbed the best mark, running the short course in 6.83 seconds. Lomira 2021 wide receiver Jesse Weber was next at 6.84 seconds, followed by Whitnall 2020 defensive back Nate Valcarcel posted an impressive 6.87 second time. A total of 12 athletes went under seven seconds.

The shuttle or pro agility is another outstanding change-of-direction test, with athletes starting from a stop, running five yards in one direction, ten yards the other direction, and five yards back to the center. College coaches lined up around the testing locations all day, as it is one of the most beneficial events for seeing how players move, bend, and control their bodies.

In the Shuttle event, the top time went to Muskego 2021 running back Alex Current, who completed the 5-10-5 shuttle in 4.09 seconds. Current rushed for more than 1500 yards for the Division 1 state champion Warriors last year.

Nate Valcarcel of Whitnall continued his strong day with a 4.12 second showing in the shuttle, and was rewarded with a scholarship offer from North Dakota.

Perhaps the most impressive performance of the entire Combine came from Stoughton 2020 offensive lineman Jack Nelson. Already committed to the Badgers and an All-State selection last season, Nelson ran 4.19 seconds in the shuttle, good for third overall, while measuring in at 6'7.5" and 274 pounds. That kind of time for a player that big is absolutely amazing. For reference, the fastest shuttle time at this year's NFL Combine by an offensive lineman was 4.40 seconds.

Players also tested in the bench press, with 2020 prospects repping at 185 pounds, and 2021 prospects at 170 pounds. Edgerton defensive lineman Reed Farrington and Siren defensive lineman Gavyn Anton tied for the most reps of 185 pounds with 36. The top mark in the 2021 class of 170 pounds was posted by Nekoosa offensive lineman Logan Cleary, who lifted the bar 49 times.

In addition to some of the players listed above, other skill guys who showed well included Sparta 2020 ATH Cole Wisniewski (who was offered by Northern Illinois and D2 Southwest Minnesota State), Neenah 2020 DB Sam Jung, New Berlin Eisenhower 2020 WR Ben Buechel, Sussex Hamilton 2021 RB Noah Bauer, Germantown 2020 WR Connor Leffler, Sussex Hamilton 2020 DB Grant Reek, Waterford 2020 RB Tanner Keller, Marquette 2020 LB Vinny Nigro, and Kenosha Tremper 2021 WR Tyler Santi.

There some huge lineman in attendance, including Nelson, Muskego 2020 OL Terrin Hey (6'7.5", 318), Eddgewood 2020 OL Patrick Wolter (6'7", 358), Hudson 2020 DE Cade McDonald (6'7", 240), Wauwatosa East 2020 DE Brady Ingbretson (6'6.5", 222), Edgewood 2020 OL Charlie Clark (6'6.5", 264), Kewaunee 2020 OL Tanor Bortolini (6'5" 272), and Stratford 2020 OL Easton Kilty (6'5", 267). Also, Manitowoc Lincoln 2020 tight end Davis Heinzen measured in at 6'5", 240 pounds and may be a candidate for offensive line at the next level.

Please note this is just some of the top marks for each event. With 512 athletes competing, it is difficult to mention all of the standouts from the Combine. Full results can be found below.

All results are sorted by grade, then by Last Name. You can re-sort the results by clicking on any of the column headings. Please note you will need to scroll right to see results for all tests.

All height measurements were taken with gym shoes on.

In the Bench Press, players were tested for max number of reps on a certain weight based on their grade level. Class of 2020 players repped at 185 pounds; Class of 2021 at 170 pounds.
