Bob was born in Milwaukee and raised in Franklin, Wisconsin. After graduating from Whitnall High School in 1978, he attended UW – Eau Claire majoring in Mathematics and minoring in History and Business Administration.  In May of 1993 he earned his Master’s Degree in Education from UW – Whitewater.

Bob’s 34 year coaching career began the year he student-taught at Rice Lake High School.  Bob was a volunteer sophomore football coach on the staff that was led by Will Ferris (WFCA HOF 2003) and which won the Heart- of - the North conference championship and played in the 1982 Division III State Championship.

Bob’s first teaching and coaching job was at Kenosha Tremper High School where Bob spent five years teaching math and being a member of Ron Davies’ (WFCA HOF 1998) football staff.  Bob’s football coaching duties included roles as a varsity assistant coach, as well as serving as head and assistant sophomore coach.  In 1984 Tremper won the Big Nine conference championship and reached the Division 1 State semifinals. As a sophomore coach Bob helped guide the team to 2 undefeated seasons.

In 1988 Bob joined Keith Hensler’s (WFCA HOF 2001) staff at Mukwonago.  For the next 28 years Bob served as the varsity defensive coordinator, varsity assistant, head sophomore and freshman coach. He was part of a staff that qualified for the playoffs 18 times, winning the Division I State Championship in 2004, appeared in 3 state semifinal games, 9 state quarterfinal games, won 6 conference championships, and finished 1st or 2nd in their conference for 13 consecutive seasons.  As a varsity assistant the teams Bob helped coach won 154 games and lost 62. Bob has been a long-time member of the Wisconsin Football Coaches Association, has spoken at various clinics, and published articles in the Point After.  In 1997 he was voted the District XIX Assistant Coach of the Year, and Classic Eight Assistant Coach of the year. 

As a dedicated educator Bob has received the Kiwanis Inspiration Teacher Award several times, and has been an honoree of Who’s Who Among America Teachers. In addition to coaching football Bob coached varsity track helping the team finish 2nd in the 1992 Division I State Track Meet.  Bob was also part of the basketball staff that qualified for the State Basketball Tournament in 1991 and assisted in the renovation of two separate weight rooms.  In 2016 Bob was inducted into the Mukwonago Athletic Hall of Fame.   

Bob would like to thank all of the players, coaches, administrators, and communities for their support dedication, and desire to always improve.  They made his journey never seem like work.

Bob has been very fortunate to have the support and encouragement from his family, including his wife Diane, and his sons and former ball boys: Colin, Kevin, John, and Michael.  Thanks for being his cornerstone.  He would never have accomplished this honor without you!!
