Paul was born and raised in Mosinee, Wisconsin where he graduated from Mosinee high school. In high school he participated in football, wrestling and baseball. Lettering nine different times in those sports. Paul’s senior year he was voted captain of the football, wrestling and baseball teams. 

After high school,  Paul attended the University of Wisconsin Stevens Point where he graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree and teaching certification in Broad Field Social Studies and History. Paul has taught social studies at D C Everest high school and Mosinee middle school. In 1997 Paul was selected Teacher of the Year in the Mosinee school district. In 2001 he received his Masters of Education degree from Saint Scholastica college in Duluth.

Paul  has coached football for thirty consecutive years, nine years as an assistant at Mosinee high school under Hall of Fame Coach Bob Coy. One year as an assistant coach at D C Everest high school  under Hall of Fame Coach Wayne Steffenhagen and twenty years as the head coach at Mosinee high school.  Paul was an assistant coach at D C Everest high school when they won the 1989 Division 1 WIAA state football championship. Paul also was the head football coach at Mosinee high school when they were the 2005 WIAA Division 3 State Runner -Up. Paul has coached football teams that have qualified twenty one times different  times for the WIAA play-offs and won eight conference championships. He has coached five different teams that reached the WIAA  playoff  semifinals in his career. Paul also was an assistant wrestling coach for ten years and supervised the weight room for 30 years.

Paul was voted conference Coach of the Year four times and WFCA district Coach of the Year once. He was an assistant coach for the WFCA All- Star game in 1999 and 2007. He was head coach of the WFCA All- Star  game in 2012. Paul was a WFCA District representative from 2003 to 2015. In 2012 he was selected the Central Wisconsin Channel 7  Football Coach of  the Year. In 2015 he received the Wisconsin Athletic Directors Service Award. Paul’s head coaching record was 127 wins and 65 losses. 

Paul enjoyed football practice more than anything. The contact and relationships with the players and coaches was a major part of Paul’s life. He was blessed to be able to coach his son Clint in football for four years as head coach at Mosinee high school. 

Paul is extremely thankful to his son Clint and daughter Claire who have always been extremely supportive during his coaching career. Paul is deeply indebted to all the great young men who he has coached.  Furthermore, he is equally indebted to all the great assistant coaches that put in the countless hours for the Mosinee football program.  Paul is also extremely thankful to the WFCA  for all they do for the game of football in the state of Wisconsin.
