Kirk was born in Neenah, Wisconsin, on September 4, 1968, to George and Helen DeNoyer. He graduated from Northwestern Prep High School in Watertown, WI in 1986, where he participated on a WISAA state championship football team and back-to-back state championship basketball teams. After high school he earned his BS degree at Wisconsin Lutheran College.

Kirk started his career as a math teacher at Wisconsin Lutheran High School where he also coached football and basketball. After six seasons as an assistant he became the head football coach in 1995. In his 20 years as head coach the Wisconsin Lutheran football teams qualified for the playoffs in every season. His teams won five state titles — one private school title in 1998 and WIAA titles in 2004, ’05, ’07 and ’14 — and were the state runners-up in 1999, ‘03 and ’11. With an overall record of 196-47 (.807) they won 15 Wisconsin Little Ten conference titles.

“I am thankful to God for the twenty years I was given the opportunity to serve at such a great school as Wisconsin Lutheran High School and to be a part of an incredible coaching staff. A special thanks to those coaches who were together the entire time including Andre Gosch, David Kren, Bill Plamann, Joel Radue and Al Greschner. I am also thankful to my great family and grateful for the privilege to have coached both my sons, Andrew and Austin.”

“The Lord blessed the school and football program with many gifted and dedicated athletes who lived and played by the program’s motto: “First Lord, Second – Team.”
