Louis was born in Frankfurt, Germany August 9, 1968 to Sally and Charlie Brown.  Growing up in a military family Louis went to school in Germany, Virginia, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania and ultimately in Wisconsin.  He graduated from Waterloo High School in Wisconsin in 1986, where he played football, baseball and wrestled.  He was an all-conference player in baseball and football his senior year.  

After graduating from Waterloo High School, Louis Brown went to the University of Wisconsin La Crosse and graduated with a degree in physical education and a minor in adaptive physical education. In 1991 he began his teaching and coaching career in Kankakee, Illinois where he taught adaptive physical education and coached freshman football.  After a year in Kankakee Louis took a teaching and coaching job at Franklin, Wisconsin where he would coach for the next 31 years. In 1999 Louis finished his masters degree in curriculum and instruction with an emphasis in health from the University of Whitewater.  

Before becoming head coach at Franklin 11 years ago, Louis was the head wrestling coach for 17 years and defensive coordinator for 12 years.  In 17 years as head wrestling coach, Franklin went to team state eight times.  In 2002 Louis was the assistant coach of the year for the Sabers and helped coach Franklin to their first ever state championship as a defensive coordinator in 2006.   In 2015 Louis was Regional Head Coach of the Year.  In 2021 Brown was named the WFCA and Green Bay Packers Coach of the Year. 

Franklin has made the playoffs 23 straight years since 1999.  In the last five years Franklin has averaged 23 players each year that were playing college football.  Since Coach Brown took over as head coach for Franklin, the Sabers have compiled a 118-22 record.  Since 1999 when Louis became a defensive coordinator and ultimately a head coach Franklin has compiled a 208-59 record.  During the 11 years as head coach Franklin has won the conference championship nine times.  The last 11 years also included  two state runner up finishes in 2013 and 2016, and a Division 1 state championship in 2021. 

Louis met his wife Lynn while attending UW-LaCrosse and has been married to her since 1991.  We have been blessed to have two wonderful sons who both played for Louis at Franklin.  Louden is a math teacher at New Richmond and a football coach and Logan is a mechanical engineer at Metal Tech in Waukesha.
