Scott was born in Wakefield, Michigan, February 18 1969 to Larry and Diane Erickson. He graduated from Hurley high school in 1987 where he played football and was selected team MVP while playing center and middle linebacker.

Erickson continued his education and playing careers at UW-Eau Claire in 1987, and then after playing football for one year decided to try out for the golf team, competing for two seasons. In 1990 his high school coach, Jont Tyson, asked him if he could help as an assistant coach during fall camp. It was this opportunity that changed the direction of Scott’s life. He assisted one more year, and then following graduation from UW-Eau Claire in 1992, began his career at the Hurley School District as a History Teacher and Head Football Coach. Prior to being named head coach, Hurley had only qualified for the playoffs one time in their history. Scott along with his staff and team turned the program into a winner in 1993, qualifying for the playoffs. They won the programs first ever playoff game in 1994. 1995 was a magical season at Hurley, as the team survived a brutal playoff schedule and reached the state championship game for the only time in school history.

Football success at Hurley has continued throughout the years. Scott’s teams have made the playoffs 28 years out of my 31 years during his tenure as head coach, including their current streak of 25 years in a row. Hurley’s football teams have won 10 conference championships in two different states, and have been in the semi-final game three times. Scott was selected Conference Coach of the Year five times and selected to coach in the UP All-Star game twice. Scott has also been the head basketball, golf, and track and field coach during his tenure at Hurley, and coached the only undefeated regular season basketball team in Hurley High School history. Erickson was also an assistant coach on the 2022 basketball state qualifying team, the first Hurley team to qualify since 1949.

Scott married the love of his life, Farah in 2002 and they have been blessed to raise two wonderful children, Talia and Brodie. Coaching football has truly been a family adventure for all of us.
