Kevin Grundy was born on July 7, 1962, in Joliet, Illinois, to Russ and Elaine Grundy. Raised in a family who loved sports, Kevin’s entire life revolved around athletics.

Kevin graduated from Wausau Newman High School in 1980, lettering in football, wrestling, and baseball. Kevin then attended Mount Senario College in Ladysmith, WI, earning a BS in Physical Education, Health/Adaptive PE at UWSP, and Master’s at Silver Lake College. At MSC, Kevin played football for WFCA Hall of Fame Coach Bruce Stewart, where his team won four straight NAIA conference titles. Kevin was voted MVP offensive line and All-Conference NAIA player.

Turning struggling programs into successful teams has been Kevin’s talent as a coach. In 1993, Kevin started his career at Wausau Newman. With zero wins in two years, Kevin quickly coached Newman to winning seasons and two state playoff berths to Newman within three years.

From 1996-2002, as the offensive coordinator for Wausau East, he helped the program reach the playoffs four times.

Antigo then hired Kevin as Head Coach from 2003-2006 for a program with only two wins in five years. Under his direction, they had two winning seasons, two state playoff berths, and advanced to the second round of playoffs.

Wausau West named Kevin Head Coach from 2006-2016. During his second season, they won their first playoff game in the 40 year history of West. In 2013, West hosted its first playoff game in school history. West then advanced to the second round of state playoffs in 2014, gaining the first back-to-back playoff game wins in school history. In ten years, West qualified for five state playoff appearances.

Kevin went on to lead Wausau East as head coach for two years until his retirement in 2019.

In 2007, Kevin was named Wausau Daily Herald Coach of the Year and in 2015, Channel 7 Coach of the Year. He was also Assistant Coach for two WFCA Wisconsin All-Star games. He served as a WFCA district four rep, published articles in the Point After, plus directed a Wing-T Round Table Clinic for 14 years.

Kevin thanks his wife of 30 years, Lori, his children Gregorio, Patrick, and Marisa, and his parents for their understanding, love, and patience throughout his 36 years of coaching. He also credits the dedicated assistant coaches, athletes, administrators, and communities during his career spanning 19 years as head coach and 17 years as assistant coach.
