Patrick was born in 1970 in Menomonee Falls, Wisconsin, to Mark and Sandra Wagner. He
attended Menomonee Falls High School where he lettered in football, basketball, track, and
baseball.
Wagner attended UW-Whitewater where he played for Coach Bob Berezowitz. After playing he
became a graduate assistant for Coach Berezowitz. He served as a defensive assistant and
administrative assistant.
After graduating from Whitewater, Patrick coached middle school and semi professional football.
In 1997 Patrick began teaching at Milwaukee Riverside University High School. He became
defensive coordinator in 1998 and helped lead the team to their first WIAA playoff appearance. In 1999 the team won their first conference title since 1950. Then in 2001 Wagner became Head football coach and led that team to the Milwaukee Blackbourn division title. In 2006 Wagner led
Riverside to its first WIAA state semifinal appearance. Riverside went back to the state
semifinals in 2011.
Wagner reached the 100 win mark in 2017. He has coached eight conference championship teams, and reached the WIAA playoffs 18 times with two state semi-final appearances. He has had 72 former players go onto play college football. Three of his former players went onto the NFL and one in the CFL.
During his career Patrick was named Conference Coach of the Year nine times, All-Region Coach of the Year eight times and In 2006, was named the AP Coach of the Year in Wisconsin. In 2019 he was awarded the Semper Fidelis Award from the US Marine Corp. He was also recognize by the WFCA in 2021 with the Marge and Dick Rundle, Positive influence of Coaching Award.
In addition Patrick coached for Team USA in 1999. He has coached in two WFCA All-Star games and ran the NFL, JPD and HSPD programs for Milwaukee.
Patrick would like to thank his mentors Jack Synold of Menomonee Falls, Bruce Bukowski at
UW-Whitewater and especially Bob Berezowitz who gave him an opportunity to play and coach, but also for their many years of guidance and friendship. A special thank you to Riverside’s Rick Johnson for taking a chance and his tireless work to make Milwaukee Riverside a great place. He would like to thank all of the coaches and players he has had the privilege to work with and serve.
Patrick met his wife Karen at a Milwaukee Momentum Women’s Professional football game in
which he was the defensive coordinator for Milwaukee. They have two wonderful children:
Nicholas and Angelena.
