Tim Simon, Middleton

Tim Simon is a Wisconsin native, graduating from Mayville High School in 1984. He participated in football, basketball, and track all four years, earning seven varsity letters. He also played baseball on the Mayville Legion Team. Under WFCA Hall of Fame Coach Jack Omer, Tim played on back-to-back undefeated regular season football teams. He also was part of Mayville’s 1983 State Championship basketball team.

Tim attended the University of Wisconsin-Madison, graduating in 1989 with a bachelor’s degree in education-physics. In 1990, he was hired by the Middleton-Cross Plains Area School District. He later earned his master’s degree in education from Aurora University. Tim continues to teach physics at Middleton High School, as well as coach football and basketball.

Tim served as an assistant football coach for 13 years at all levels of the program under WFCA Hall of Fame Head Coach Kurt Gundlach and WFCA Hall of Fame Assistant Coach Tom Cabalka. In 2004, Tim was named head coach of the Middleton program. During his 16 years as head coach, Middleton won 126 games overall, 110 of which were in conference play. Those teams earned six Big 8 Conference Championships and seven Conference Runners-Up. In his 33 years of coaching to date, Middleton won 238 varsity games and earned eight conference championships. Middleton Football qualified for the WIAA Division 1 playoffs – a record 27 consecutive years – including seven quarterfinal and two semifinal finishes.

Tim was named Big 8 Coach of the Year multiple times, All-Region Coach three times, and WFCA All-Star Game coach three times. Tim received numerous teaching awards throughout his career, the most prestigious being named as a Distinguished Teacher White House Commission of Presidential Scholars. More than 26 of his former players have gone on to coach football at the high school and collegiate levels. He is honored to be a Confirmation sponsor for four of his former athletes.

Tim is grateful to his entire family for all their love and support. He also extends special thanks to all his coaching colleagues with whom he has worked throughout his career.
