John Galewski, South Milwaukee

John was born in South Milwaukee, Wisconsin, June 9th, 1957 to William Galewski and Mary Ann (Pajewski). He is the oldest of four boys. He graduated from South Milwaukee High School in 1975, where he played football and baseball. After graduation he met his wife Sandi, also a South Milwaukee grad, where they live and raised their four children. They have been married for over 46 years.

In 1980 John was hired by his former head coach, WFCA Hall of Fame coach, Bill Spaltholz. After 22 years as a junior varsity and head freshmen coach, John was an offensive coordinator before becoming the Head Coach in 2006. The Rockets were in the WIAA football playoffs each of his last 7 of 10 years as head coach. Reaching level 3 in the playoffs in 2010. The Rockets were conference champions in 2012 and 2013. John was WFCA All-Star head coach in 2014 and an assistant in 2012 and 2017.

John coached high school football at South Milwaukee for 41 years. During that time, he was also the Varsity Baseball Head Coach for 31 years. Winning the WIAA State Summer Baseball Championship in 1996. He was inducted it the WBCA Hall of Fame in 2012. South Milwaukee’s baseball field was named “John Galewski Field in 2019. He also coached junior varsity basketball and was a varsity assistant for 23 years under WBCA Hall of Fame coach, Rich Vokoun.

John worked at Superior Die Set Corporation for over 42 years. The Janiszewski family and Mark Ullstrup are credited for understanding John’s passion to coach and contribute to his community. John coached his three daughters Sarah, Holly and Tracy in basketball and his son Richard in football and baseball. Sarah is a secretary at the high school for family friend and longtime South Milwaukee athletic director Ante Udovicic. Holly is a high school guidance counselor in Chandler, Az. Tracy is a math interventionist in Wauwatosa, WI; and Richard is an athletic director in Maryvale Az.

John is a Co-Chairperson for “Launching a Legacy”, which is a community group that led a 3.8-million-dollar project to redo the high school track and turf the football, baseball and softball fields in South Milwaukee. He continues coaching his grandchildren in youth sports. John and Sandi love to travel and spend time with their family.
