Tom Kujawa was born on October 6, 1965, to parents Tom and Lois Kujawa. Growing
up in Cudahy, the greatest city during the greatest time, Kujawa played quarterback and
was a captain for the Cudahy Packers. Kujawa continued his athletic journey at St.
Cloud State University in Minnesota, where he played football and earned degrees in
mass communications and speech communications.
His coaching career began in 1990 at his alma mater, where he worked alongside Hall
of Fame Coach, Clayton Lynde, coaching linebackers. In 1993, Kujawa was put in
charge of Carey Venne’s Packer Defense, coached special teams, and served as the
strength and conditioning coordinator. In the 1994 season, “The Purple Plague”
defense spearheaded Cudahy to its only State Championship in school history, securing
nine shutouts and forcing 27 fumbles along the way. The Packers outscored their
opponents 365-40 and the Packer defense only allowed six points in Woodland
Conference games.
Kujawa continued his coaching journey at Germantown under Hall of Fame Coach, Phil
Datka. During his tenure at Germantown, he coached in three WIAA Division II state
finals, winning two more gold balls in 1998 and 2003. His time at Germantown was
marked by consistent playoff appearances, including ten trips to the quarterfinals or
beyond, and he coached over 30 All-Conference players, several of whom earned
All-State honors.
Beyond football, Kujawa has dedicated nearly 30 years to teaching high school English
and public speaking. He has also coached both boys and girls golf, while actively
engaging in the school community at Germantown. Married to his wife Marybeth for 29
years, they are the proud parents of three children: Tommy, Clayton, and Hannah.
He has had the privilege of playing for and coaching alongside numerous WFCA Hall of
Fame members. Reflecting on his journey, Kujawa shares, “I have been incredibly lucky
and blessed to have been surrounded by such high-quality men. They are great role
models and dear friends, and I am humbled and honored by their influence on my life.”
