Pete McAdams’ 30-year football career has left a lasting impact on high school and college football. Raised in north-central Illinois by his parents Mary Claire and Bill, Pete was a standout athlete at Hall High School in Spring Valley, excelling in football, basketball, and track & field. He was named MVP and captain of both his football and track teams, showing leadership and commitment.

Inspired by his father (University of Iowa), his uncle Bob (Troy State), and his brother Brian (Northern Illinois), McAdams pursued collegiate athletics. He began at Illinois Valley Community College before transferring to University of Wisconsin Stevens Point, where he earned All-Conference honors as a safety and led his team in tackles as a senior. These experiences solidified his foundation as both a player and leader, sparking his passion for coaching.

McAdams started his coaching career in 1992 at UW-Stevens Point under Head Coach John Miech. From 1992-1998, he coached tight ends, receivers, defensive backs, and special teams. As defensive coordinator in 1999, his defense helped guide the team to a WIAC Championship, an NCAA playoff berth, and a number one national ranking in turnovers caused and points allowed. He returned to UW-Stevens Point in 2021 to coach linebackers, where Kam Kryzanski led the conference in tackles and earned All WIAC honors.

McAdams’ coaching also expanded internationally. As a player-coach in the European Football League, he led his team to the Swedish National Championship in 1992 and the Scandinavian Cup Championship in 1995.

In 2000, McAdams became head coach at Stevens Point Area Senior High (SPASH) where he served for 20 years. His leadership elevated the program to new heights, with the team reaching five state semi-finals and competing in the 2010 state championship. Under his guidance, an average of five players per graduating class advanced to play college football, including 12 first-team WFCA All-State selections, including NFL first-round draft pick Ryan Ramczyk.

Throughout his career, McAdams received numerous accolades, including six conference Coach of the Year honors. He built lasting relationships with players, colleagues, and the community. As a teacher and strength coach, he also led the campaign to build a new SPASH Strength and Fitness Center.

Pete, along with Julie and their daughters, Hannah and Maddie, reside in Stevens Point. Coach McAdams’ legacy is defined not only by his on-field success but by his enduring impact on his players, students, and community. His career embodies mentorship, leadership, and the lasting impact of coaching.
