For 28 years, the city of Menomonie, Wisconsin, was my home, and the gridiron, my stage. It was there that I honed my craft as an offensive line coach, leading our teams to four state championships and one runner-up finish. Our journey to the semi-finals became a familiar path, a testament to the hard work and dedication of the young men who lined up in the trenches.
While the spotlight often fell on the skill positions, I found immense pride in the unsung heroes of the offensive line. These selfless individuals, who rarely graced the headlines, were the foundation upon which our offensive successes were built. They played not for personal glory, but for the collective good of the team, embodying a spirit of unity, camaraderie and purpose that transcended the game itself. To all my linemen, I owe a huge debt of gratitude, and bear fond memories of our time together.
Beyond Menomonie, my coaching journey took me to Georgia, Iowa, and Tennessee, where I continued to shape young lives and contribute to winning programs. Throughout my 351 career victories as an assistant coach, I was fortunate to work alongside some of the finest minds in the sport. Their expertise, passion, and commitment to player development inspired me to strive for excellence in every facet of my role. I am especially grateful to Joe LaBuda, who gave me a chance, as a young coach to prove myself. His friendship is one of my most valued treasures!
As an offensive line coach, I relished the opportunity to work behind the scenes, guiding and mentoring the big men who often went unnoticed. I took immense satisfaction in knowing that our collective efforts were instrumental in the team's success. The countless hours spent on the practice field, breaking down film, and imparting knowledge were a labor of love. To all of you who donned the Menomonie jersey with a lineman number, I owe you this honor. You are forever in my thoughts and prayers! UFI!
I am eternally grateful to my wife, Donita, and my children, Leah, Luke, and Nate, for their unwavering support and sacrifices over many years, many late nights watching film, and many road games. Their understanding and encouragement allowed me to pursue my passion for coaching. I am also indebted to the head coaches who entrusted me with the development of their offensive lines. Their belief in my abilities provided me with invaluable opportunities to grow as a coach and a mentor.
The football friendships forged through the years have enriched my life immeasurably. I cherish the bonds I have formed with players, coaches, and families alike. The game of football has given me so much, and I am humbled to be recognized for the Hall of Fame by the Wisconsin Football Coaches Association.
