Sun Prairie's Brian Kaminski selected as Packers Coach of the Week

Brian Kaminski of Sun Prairie High School has been named Green Bay Packers High School Coach of the Week the organization announced Wednesday.

Kaminski, in his ninth season as the head coach of Sun Prairie, led the Cardinals to a 17-14 victory over No. 1-ranked Waukesha West in the second level of the WIAA playoffs. Friday’s victory snapped the Wolverine’s 20-game win streak which dates back to September 2010.

“It’s been a great season,” said Kaminski. “We were able to win our level one game on a last-second blocked field goal and then last weekend we beat Waukesha West in a tough and highly-contested football game. So far our kids have been able to fight through adversity and come out on top.”

A Crystal Lake, Ill. native, Kaminski is a 1991 graduate of Marian Central High School (Ill.) where he played running back and defensive back under head coach Steve Patton. After high school, he attended the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater, where he played outside linebacker under 1998 Wisconsin Football Coaches Association Hall of Fame inductee Bob Berezowitz. Upon graduating in 1997, Kaminski began his coaching career as an assistant at Sun Prairie before being promoted to head coach in 2003. Kaminski is also the school's physical education and health teacher.

Kaminski and his staff oversee a program of 105 players, including a varsity roster of 72. He is assisted by Jared Acker, Tim Bass, Will Hull, Chad Kavanaugh, Jack Marchese, Mike Pogue, Corey Stauff, Tom Tucker, Brian Waszczyk and Steve Weyer.
Kaminski and his wife, Kate, have one daughter, Abby, and one son, Jerry.

The Packers will recognize one outstanding high school coach as their 'Coach of the Week' winner during the 2011 high school football season. Winners are awarded several items and privileges, including a $2,000 donation to the school's football program from the Green Bay Packers and the NFL, as well as recognition of the award on packers.com.
