Verona's Dave Richardson named Packers Coach of the Week

Dave Richardson of Verona High School has been named Green Bay Packers High School Coach of the Week the organization announced Wednesday.

Richardson, in his twelfth year as the head coach of Verona, led the Wildcats to a 52-28 victory over the previously unbeaten Janesville Parker Vikings. Verona improved to 6-0 and seized sole possession of first place in the Big Eight Conference.

“I’ve been really proud of our team and the things that we’ve been able to accomplish this year”, said Richardson. We’re confident, feeling pretty good about ourselves, and we’re hoping that we can keep things rolling.”

A Madison, Wis., native, Richardson is a 1981 graduate of Madison Memorial High School where he played defensive back and wide receiver under 2001 Wisconsin Football Coaches Association Hall of Fame inductee Wally Schoessow. Following high school, Richardson attended the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater before transferring to the University of Wisconsin-Madison. While in college, Richardson began his coaching career as an assistant for his alma mater. In 1985 he accepted his first head coaching position at Madison Holy Name High School. He then moved on to Wisconsin Rapids Assumption High School where he spent one year, and Dominican High School for four years, before taking over the reins as the head coach and physical education teacher for Verona in 2000.

Richardson and his staff oversee a program of 150 players, including a varsity roster of 65. His assistant coaching staff includes Ben Becker, Trevor Burmeister, John Campbell, Scott Cramer, Brad Crandell, Lowell Davis, Tim Dreger, Fred Hable, Chris Hoel, Rick Kisting, Tyler Knudtson, Andy Kruger, Jason Nevins, Ryan Rammer, Mark Rohlfing, Blake Rowe, Brad Rupnow, Aaron Steger, and Steve Turkington.

Richardson and his wife, Patti, have two daughters, Brooke and Lexy.

The Packers will recognize one outstanding high school coach as their 'Coach of the Week' winner during the 2011 high school football season. Winners are awarded several items and privileges, including a $2,000 donation to the school's football program from the Green Bay Packers and the NFL, as well as recognition of the award on packers.com.
