Watertown's Benji Kamrath named Packers Coach of the Week

Benji Kamrath of Watertown High School has been named Green Bay Packers High School Coach of the Week the organization announced Wednesday.

Kamrath, in his 3rd year as head coach, led the Goslings to a 21-17 victory over division rival Oconomowoc Coons last Friday to improve the team’s record to 4-0. This marks the Goslings best start since the 1998 season.

“We’re very excited about where our program is at right now,” said Kamrath. “Our kids and our community believe we’re a good team and I’m very proud of what they’ve accomplished thus far.”

A Mayville, Wis., native, Kamrath is a 1999 graduate of Mayville High School where he played quarterback under Wisconsin Football Coaches Association Hall of Fame inductee Alex Hilber. After high school, he attended the University of Minnesota where he played quarterback for head coach Glen Mason. Upon graduating in 2003, Kamrath began his coaching career as an assistant at Watertown before being promoted to head coach in 2009. Kamrath is also the 6th grade teacher at Riverside Middle School.

Kamrath and his staff oversee a program of 130 players, including a varsity roster of 70. His assistant coaching staff includes Jason Bleck, Andy Cashin, Noah Gibson, Rob Harms, Joel Kamrath, Matt Meracle, Scott Quest, Rob Roe, Steve Schleicher, Sean Weber, Brent Yaeggi,

Kamrath and his wife, Melinda, have three sons, Colin, Reece, Brevon, and one daughter, Hannah.

The Packers will recognize one outstanding high school coach as their 'Coach of the Week' winner during the 2011 high school football season. Winners are awarded several items and privileges, including a $2,000 donation to the school's football program from the Green Bay Packers, Wisconsin National Guard, and the NFL, as well as recognition of the award on packers.com.

Nominations for Coach of the Week should be submitted by 9 a.m. every Monday to Tim Schroeder, youth football coordinator, at coachoftheweek@packers.com (e-mail) or by fax at (920) 569-7302. Please include the nominee's name, address, school, phone number, and reason he/she is deserving of the award.
