Harold Schumerth - St. Norbert / Algoma / Oshkosh

Born January 9, 1914 in DePere, WI

Attended DePere High School, Graduate of St. Norbert College with B.A. and University of Notre Dame with M.A.

Coached football at:

St. Norbert College as an Assistant Coach at 1938-39;

Algoma High School as a Head Coach 1939-43; and

Oshkosh High School 1943-71.

Coached Football 38 years, Won 138, Lost 96, Tied 17, (33 years)

Most success came in the sixties when 76 wins, 16 losses and 4 ties were recorded. During that time Oshkosh was ranked number 1 four times and five championships were earned.

Harold retired as a head coach in 1971 after having heart surgery. After that he coached defensive football at Oshkosh Lourdes 1973-74 and Oshkosh North 1978-79.

Harold has also coached basketball, tennis, and baseball. As Athletic Director (17 years) Harold was State and Regional "Athletic Director of the Year" and went to the national finals.

He was State Football Coach of the Year in 1971 and Fox Valley Coach of the Year seven times. In 1979 he was selected as Notre Dame Man of the Year in the Fox Valley, Service Above Self Award - Rotary in 1977, The Optimist Builder of Men Service Award in 1977 and Oshkosh Sportsman of the Year in 1968. He received the Wisconsin State Legislators Award in 1968 and 1971.
