Werner W. Finke - Slinger / Plymouth

Born January 21, 1916 in Mayville, Wisconsin

Attended Mayville High School, Graduate of St. Norbert College

Coached football at:

Slinger one year; and

Plymouth for 19 years.

Teams compiled a record of 121 wins, 26 losses and 13 ties.

The football teams at Plymouth High School under Werner Finke won 11 championships and had seven undefeated seasons. From 1943 to 1956 he coached all the sports at Plymouth; football, basketball, baseball, and track. His basketball teams won three championships and tied for one. The track teams finished first in the conference nine times and in 1967 they won the state Class "B" Championship. His baseball teams won two championships in two years.

Werner "Soup" attended St. Norbert College where he played football and basketball for four years. At Plymouth he started many recreational activities while he served as the city's recreation director.

He is a charter member of the Wisconsin Athletic Director's Association. He served as a director of the National Baseball Congress.

The community honored Coach Finke by naming the football field in its initial dedication, the "Werner W. Finke" field.
