Greg graduated from Milwaukee Washington High School in 1968. He lettered in football, basketball, and track, earning All-Conference recognition in football. In Greg's senior year he was selected as the W Club award winner for scholarship and athletics.

Greg continued his athletics at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, where he earned a B.S. in 1972. Also, he has a M.A. from The Ohio State University. After college, Greg continued his football career with the West Allis Spartans of the Central States Football League.

Greg began his coaching career as volunteer assistant to Jerome Fishbain at UW-Milwaukee. In 1973 he served as a graduate assistant to Woody Hayes at The Ohio State University where they won a Big Ten Conference co-championship and a Rose Bowl victory over the University of Southern California in 1974.

Greg has been the head football coach at Milwaukee Washington High School from 1975 to the present. His accomplishments at Washington include: Eighteen winning seasons, six conference championships, and eight state playoff appearances. Greg has been honored with seven conference "Coach of the Year" awards and in 1989 was the WFCA District #21 and Milwaukee Sentinel area "Coach of the Year." Greg has surpassed the legendary Lisle Blackbourn as Washington's most winning coach and currently is 159-97 at the school. He has also served Washington High as the head track coach and has developed eight individual state champions. In 2001 Greg was inducted into the Washington High School Hall of Fame.

These accomplishments aside, Greg will best be remembered as a "leader of men" who continues to devote his career to the guidance and direction of Milwaukee city youth.

Greg is appreciative of the support he has received from his parents, Helen and Chester, and other family members. Greg and his wife Rosalyn have three children: Fred, Alexandra, and Gregory, Jr. In addition, he would like to extend his thanks to all of the assistant coaches, players, administrators, students and members of the Washington community. Further, he would particularly like to thank Ed Carufel, Jon Lehman, Harry Kaminsky, and Dean Copoulos for their lifelong coaching support and friendship.
