Larry Green of the Pecatonica-Argyle cooperative high school football program has been named Green Bay Packers High School Coach of the Week, a program presented by the Wisconsin National Guard, the organization announced Wednesday.

Green’s Vikings improved to 5-1 last Saturday after defeating an undefeated Highland team, 21-14 in the closing seconds of the game.  Last weekend’s victory places Pecatonica-Argyle in sole possession of second place in the Six Rivers Conference.  The Vikings will look to extend their winning streak to four this Saturday, when they host the 1-5 Benton-Scales Mound Zephyrs.

“The game that we won over Highland was an attribute to our players not giving up,” said Green.  “Due to injuries, we had a number of replacements in the game which gave our young kids a chance to step up to the plate and do the job that their team expected them to do, and their hard work paid off in the end.”

A Darlington, Wis., native, Green is a 1991 graduate of Darlington High School where he played linebacker and guard under Wisconsin Football Coaches Association Hall of Fame inductee Doug McArthur.  After high school, he attended the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse & Madison Area Technical College before graduating in 1993.  In 1996, Green accepted his first coaching position as an assistant for the Pecatonica-Argyle football program before being promoted to head coach in 2007.

Green and his staff oversee a program of 38 players, including a varsity roster of 28.  His assistant coaching staff includes Chuck Chandler, Chris Graverson, Jess Hirsch, Tim McKeon, Mike Pittz, Jim Strommen, and Trevor Theobald.

Green and his wife, Teri, have three children, Tiffani, Logan and Tessa.

The Packers and the Wisconsin National Guard will recognize one outstanding high school coach as their 'Coach of the Week' winner during the 2012 high school football season. Winners are awarded several items and privileges, including a $2,000 donation to the school's football program from the Green Bay Packers, Wisconsin National Guard and the NFL, as well as recognition of the award on Packers.com.

Nominations for Coach of the Week should be submitted by 10 a.m. every Monday to Tim Schroeder, youth football coordinator, at coachoftheweek@packers.com (e-mail) or by fax at (920) 569-7302. Please include the nominee's name, address, school, phone number and reason he/she is deserving of the award.
