John Galewski of South Milwaukee High School has been named Green Bay Packers High School Coach of the Week, the organization announced Wednesday.

Through the first six games of the 2013 season, Galewski’s Rockets have jumped out to a 6-0 record.  Their sixth victory of the season came against Greenfield, 23-20, on a last-second touchdown pass.  Friday’s victory shot the Rockets to the top of the Woodland East Conference and the team’s best start to a season in more than two decades.

“Our coaching staff is an outstanding group of people, but the bottom line is that it comes down to the kids,” said Galewski. “It’s all about players making plays and it’s pretty evident that’s what happened to us on Friday in our game.”

A South Milwaukee, Wis., native, Galewski is a 1975 graduate of South Milwaukee High School, where he played running back and cornerback under Wisconsin Football Coaches Association Hall of Fame Inductee Bill Spaltholz. Galewski began his coaching career at his alma mater as an assistant in 1980 before being promoted to head coach in 2006. Galewski is also the high school’s varsity baseball coach and was inducted into the Wisconsin Baseball Coaches Association Hall of Fame in 2012.

Galewski and his staff oversee a program of 110 players, including a varsity roster of 51. His assistant coaching staff includes Dan Anstett, Mike Bertock, Felix Castro, Barrett Danz, Derek Hoff, Mark Hoffman, Paul Maier, Bill Morse, Robert Rothe and Nick Sabel.

Galewski and his wife, Sandi, have four children, Sarah, Holly, Tracy and Richard.
