Andy Kolosso of Hortonville High School has been named Green Bay Packers High School Coach of the Week, the organization announced Wednesday.

Kolosso, in his fourth season as the head coach and fifth with the Hortonville program, led the Polar Bears to a 34-27 overtime victory over West De Pere High School on Friday, Oct. 11, when the team was crowned conference champion for the first time since 1984.  Friday’s victory snapped West De Pere’s 30-game home win streak and improved the Polar Bears record to 8-0, a school record for most wins in a single season.

“The No. 1 thing about this group is the seniors that we have,” said Kolosso. “They committed themselves to the weight room, as well as speed and conditioning, in order to take this program to the next level. What they’ve done for the community and school district is unbelievable.”

A Menasha, Wis., native, Kolosso is a 1975 graduate of Menasha St. Mary’s High School, where he played tight end and defensive line under Wisconsin Football Coaches Association Hall of Fame inductee Avitus Ripp. After high school, Kolosso attended the University of Wisconsin-Platteville, where he was the center and guard for head coach Bob Seamans. In 1982, Kolosso was hired for his first assistant coaching position at Menasha St. Mary’s High School. After spending eight years away from coaching, Kolosso served as an assistant coach for New London High School for 15 years before moving to Hortonville and accepting the head coaching position in 2010.

Kolosso and his staff oversee a program of 110 players including a varsity roster of 65. His assistant coaching staff includes co-head coach Tom Kolosso, Zach Bellile, Bryan Fletcher, Chris Gennrich, Matt Hintz, Rich Kuranda, Casey Plamann, Tim Rietbeld and Greg Yeager.

Kolosso and his wife Sue, have two children, Tom and Katie.
