Full results, recap, and top performers from 2015 WFCA Combine

05/10/2015, 9:30pm CDT
By Travis Wilson, for the WFCA

The second annual WFCA Combine was held over the weekend, and full results are now available. The Combine was split into two sessions: Big Men in the morning and Skill Players in the afternoon. Both events were held at the new indoor facility at Sussex Hamilton High School. A total of 344 athletes competed in the Combine.

The WFCA Combine was conducted by NX Level staff with many high school football coaches assisting, and sponsored by the WFCA, NX Level, KollegeTown Sports, Under Armour, and WisSports.net. Special thank you to WFCA President-Elect Tony Biolo for organizing the event and compiling the results, Brad Arnett & crew at NX Level, Jeff Trickey for conducting the quarterback workout in the afternoon, and Sussex Hamilton High School for the hospitality.

More than 30 college coaches were on hand from at least 20 different schools, with several programs sending multiple coaches to evaluate potential prospects. While D1-FBS coaches were prohibited from attending by NCAA rules, eight D1-FCS coaches from seven schools were in attendance and closely monitoring the action. The full list of coaches in attendance is available in the tab below.

NOTE: Bench press numbers will be added to the table below shortly.

Skill Player Results

There were some blistering times posted in the 40-yard dash Saturday afternoon, which was done via hand-timing by the professionals from NX Level.

Brookfield Central 2016 QB/ATH Dominic Labellarte ran the fastest time in 4.44 seconds. A First Team All-Conference selection at running back in the Greater Metro last year, he's clearly one of the top athletes in the state regardless of position.

Four players finished at 4.47 seconds: Oconomowoc 2016 DB Jarek Berg, Pepin/Alma 2016 RB Trevor Heit, Waunakee 2018 RB Lawrence Johnson, and Wisconsin Lutheran 2016 RB/DB Terrance Ward. A total of 30 players ran sub-4.60 times.

The L-Drill is an outstanding measure of a player's overall athleticism, serving as an excellent gauge of flexibility, explosion, and change of direction ability. A pair of New Berlin Eisenhower 2016 wide receivers were in the top three. Jordan Canady posted the best mark at 6.80 seconds, while teammate Jake Rastas of New Berlin Eisenhower was third with a time of 6.89 seconds. John Ross Linscheid of Highland was second at 6.84, as nine players went under 7 seconds flat.

The Short Shuttle (5-10-5) is another excellent measure of explosion, quickness, and agility. The best time in that event was from Oconomowoc's Jarek Berg, who went 4.04 seconds. Rastas finished in 4.07 seconds, while Franklin 2016 QB Benjamin Wachter went 4.13. Ten players finished with times better than 4.20.

Some familiar names stood out in the Vertical Jump, which was measured by an advanced pad system. Brown Deer 2016 WR Nyles Williams soared to a mark of 37.1 inches, followed by Ward from Wisconsin Lutheran (36.2) and Heit of Pepin/Alma (35.7).

Canady (10'1") and Ward (10'0") were the only players to get at least ten feet in the broad jump.

Certainly, players listed above were some of the most impressive performers of the weekend. Other players who scored very well in all events were Homestead 2016 RB Matthew Winters, Waunakee 2016 QB Casey Marksberry, Franklin 2016 RB Gavin Boeck, Marquette 2016 RB Jerard Swan, and Iola-Scandinavia 2016 LB Kristian Welch amongst others. Welch is listed at 6-3, 215 pounds, but ran 4.60 in the 40-yard dash with impressive showings in the L-Drill (7.25) and Shuttle (4.22) as well.

Big Man Results

The Big Man group, which consisted of offensive and defensive linemen, was tested in the 10-yard burst rather than the 40. In the 10-yard event, Oak Creek 2016 DL Dloyd Mitchell ran 1.44 seconds to post the top time. Fort Atkinson 2017 OL Ryley Walter finished in 1.45 seconds, while Wisconsin Rapids 2016 OL Jack Vruwink went 1.47 seconds. Both Josh Rutherford (Fort Atkinson 2016 DL) and Colin Sabel (Lomira 2016 DE) finished at 1.50 seconds.

In the L-Drill, Kettle Moraine 2016 DE Dan Graft posted the lowest time in 7.28 seconds. Samuel Kratochvil (Wauwatosa East 2016 DL) went 7.35, with Sabel from Lomira finishing in a very strong 7.43 seconds.

University School of Milwaukee 2016 DE Justice Kelly had the best best time in the Short Shuttle (5-10-5), going 4.37 seconds. Graf went 4.46, while a trio of players finished in 4.50 seconds: Kimberly 2017 DE Logan McCormick, South Milwaukee 2017 DE Nick Honerlaw, and Pewaukee 2018 DL Seth Bickett.

McCormick (31.0 inches), Graf (30.8), and Bickett (29.9) were tops in the vertical jump.

Honerlaw had the best broad jump at 9 feet, 3.75 inches, while Pewaukee 2017 DE Blaze Beltron (9'0.5") and Wauwatosa West 2017 DL Javaree Jackson (9'0") were the only others to hit 9 feet.
