The Green Bay Packers have announced Craig McClelland of Union Grove High School has been named the Green Bay Packers High School Football Coach of the Week.

McClelland currently is in his first year as head coach of the Union Grove football program. On Friday, Oct. 23, in Level 1 of the WIAA Division 2 playoffs, the no. 7 seed Union Grove Broncos upset the no. 2 seed Greenfield Hustlin’ Hawks with a final score of 27-6, in the Broncos’ first playoff appearance since 2009. They now will travel to conference rival, Waterford High School, to take on the Wolverines in a Level 2 matchup on Friday, Oct. 30, at 7 p.m.

“I knew coming into the season that we had a special group,” said McClelland. “The pieces were in place, but for us it’s about going 1-0 each week and concentrating on winning each day in order to be successful on Friday night. Thanks to a great coaching staff, we were able to give our community a winner this year.”

A Union Grove native, McClelland is a 2007 graduate of Union Grove High School, where he played quarterback and outside linebacker under coach Jeff Urban. McClelland went on to attend the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh where he played quarterback and H-back under head coach Pat Cerroni. He started his coaching career in 2012 as an assistant at his high school alma mater, and after three seasons, he was promoted to head coach. McClelland is also the school’s special education aide.

McClelland and his staff oversee a program of 85 players, including a varsity roster of 45. His coaching staff includes Andre Cartagena, Bryan Groshek, Daryl Bones, Craig McClelland, Erick Peasley, Eric Willms and Sam D'Alie.
