The Green Bay Packers have announced Keith Badger of New Richmond High School has been named the Green Bay Packers High School Football Coach of the Week, which is the final Coach of the Week award for the 2015 season.

Badger, who is in his third year as the head coach of the New Richmond football program, led the no. 4 seeded Tigers to a 24-16 upset victory over the no. 1 seed Rice Lake Warriors in the second level of the WIAA Division 3 playoffs on Friday, Oct. 30. New Richmond will now travel to Medford to take on the no. 2 seed Raiders in a Level 3 matchup on Friday, Nov. 6, at 7 p.m.

“Our theme heading into the playoffs and moving forward is ‘write your story,’” said Badger. “Instead of having the news write about us, we want to write the news. We lost some games early in the season that we feel we should have won and looking back, those games allowed our players and coaches to grow and helped us win last Friday.”

A Cottage Grove native, Badger is a 2005 graduate of Park High School, where he played quarterback and defensive back under coach Doug Ekmark. After high school, he attended the University of St. Thomas, where he played wide receiver for coach Glenn Caruso.

Badger began his coaching career as an assistant for Tartan High School in 2009. After one season, Badger accepted an assistant coaching position at his high school alma mater, which he held from 2010-12 before being offered his current head coaching position at New Richmond in 2013. Badger is also the school’s physical education teacher.

Badger and his staff oversee a program of 73 players including a varsity roster of 45. His coaching staff includes Troy Cran, Jason Eckert, Nick Filipiak, Brian Kaczmarski, Cash Langeness, Dave Mehls, Brian Montpetit, Ryan Schradle and Roger Stippel.

Badger and his wife, Kayla, have one son, Greyson.
