By Travis Wilson, for the WFCA

The third annual WFCA Combine was held over the weekend, and full results are now available. The Combine was split into five sessions, though all athletes were tested on the same events. All events were held at the new indoor facility at Sussex Hamilton High School. A total of 515 athletes competed in the Combine.

The WFCA Combine was conducted by NX Level staff with many high school football coaches assisting, and sponsored by the WFCA, NX Level, KollegeTown Sports, Under Armour, and WisSports.net. Special thank you to WFCA President Tony Biolo for organizing the event and compiling the results, Brad Arnett & crew at NX Level, Jeff Trickey for conducting the quarterback workout in the afternoon, and Sussex Hamilton High School for the hospitality.

More than 60 college coaches were on hand from at least 31 different schools, with several programs sending multiple coaches to evaluate potential prospects. While D1-FBS coaches were prohibited from attending by NCAA rules, 10 D1-FCS coaches from seven schools were in attendance and closely monitoring the action. The full list of coaches in attendance is available in the tab below.

Combine Recap and Top Performers

There were some blistering times posted in the 40-yard dash Saturday afternoon, which was done via hand-timing by the professionals from NX Level.

A total of four athletes ran under 4.50 in the 40-yard dash. The fastest belonged to Wisconsin Lutheran's Brian Corbins Jr., a Class of 2017 running back, who posted a mark of 4.44 seconds. Amherst wide receiver/defensive back Josh Cisewski went 4.45, catching the eye of a number of college coaches, especially considering he measured in at 6-0, 179 pounds. Class of 2018 defensive back Trent Ingalls from Menasha and Class of 2017 defensive back Calvin Matthew of Milwaukee King also posted outstanding times, running 4.47.

Greenfield 2017 running back Ezekiel Banks (4.53), Darlington 2017 running back Hunter Johnson (4.56), Onalaska 2017 receiver Jalen Sample (4.56), and Holmen running back Seth Wilson (4.56) were other strong collegiate prospects that posted outstanding times.

Speaking of Wilson, he had the best vertical jump of 37.9 inches. AmenR'ashan Elzie, a 2017 running back from Milwaukee Pulaski, had a mark of 36.2 inches. Poynette 2017 Tanner Kerr (36.1) and Sun Prairie 2017 Nathan Coy (36.0) hit at least 36 inches as well.

The top broad jump was 10'2" from Pepin/Alma's Caiden Haake, who was a First Team All-State choice last season as a junior. At 6-3, 199, it's a very impressive score. Kerr jumped 10'1", while Wilson, Matthew, and Jake Collinsworth (Merrill 2017 LB) also hit 10 feet even.

The fastest L-Drill times were from Brookfield Central 2017 WR Thomas Gibson and Highland 2017 QB/WR John Ross Linscheid, who both posted times of 6.72 seconds. Zach Genrich of Mukwonago went 6.78. Collinsworth finished in 6.81, while Onalaska 2017 LB Tyler Turriff was impressive in 6.82 seconds.

Linscheid cruised through the pro shuttle (5-10-5) in the fastest time of 4.00. It was Green Bay Southwest 2017 RB Kobe Maloney in second at 4.10, with Genrich, Collinsworth, Corbins JR, and Delavan-Darien 2017 Mike Alder all tied at 4.13 seconds.

We certainly can't forget about the big fellas. Athletes were tested in the bench press as well, with a max number of reps measured at pre-determined weights based on grade level. In the 2017 class, linebacker Jacob Powell put up the the most reps of 185 pounds with 32. He measured in at 6-2, 241 pounds, and was also impressive in running a 4.81 40-yard dash, going 9'3" in the broad jump, 7.31 in the L-Drill, and 4.30 in the pro shuttle. Raymond Arns of Saint Francis and Drew Hoye of Fort Atkinson completed 30 reps. In the 2018 class, Andrew Malmon of Whitnall did 38 reps, at the lower weight of 170.

Please note this is just some of the top marks for each event. With 515 athletes competing, it is difficult to mention all of the standouts from the Combine. Full results can be found below.
